Acan Masuku

... was born in 1970 in Mnyokane, Hhohho region, Swaziland.
He is one of five brothers from an artist family and he is the older brother of Shadrack Masuku. Inspired especially by his older brother Zacharia, he began to carve wooden figures for tourists at the age of 12. From about 2000 he perfected his skills in the artistic carving business at the "House on Fire", Malkerns, Swaziland, known as an event location with art gallery.
In 2005, Acan set up his own workshop with a gallery at the Mantenga Arts and Craft Center in "Ezulwini Valley", the Valley of the King of Swaziland. The gallery soon became well known across the borders of Swaziland as the "Rainbow Angel Gallery", with its "out-of-the-world-wooden-carvings" . Acan became first and foremost famous for his "extremely inventive anthropomorphic angel mobile" (Imago Mundi / Luciano Benetton Collection). Later, he developed his art with impressive imagination and stands today especially for his "seriously wacky off-the-wall" wooden sculptures, among others the "Dancing Queens" and the "African Queens".
Like his younger brother Shadrack, he was able to exhibit his sculptures in various galleries in South Africa and Mozambique and sell some overseas.
With his gallery, he received several prizes for his extraordinary work: the nationwide "Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year Award" and the "Handcraft Entrepreneur of the Year Award".
